The decision to construct a bowling green at Shaftesbury Park was taken by the Parks Committee in September 1905. It was estimated to cost about £100 including the purchase of bowls.[1]

The 1920 OS map shows a bowling green on the south edge of the park which was still shown on the 1970s map. By 2017 it had gone.
In December 1920 the Parks Committee agreed to construct a bank about 18 inches high around the bowling green as requested by the bowlers. The cost would be about £25 plus the cost of labour which would be done by the parks staff.[3]
